Default Snakeday 2008 Review

Well I just got out of bed after 5 hours sleep following long drive back from Houten.

Our journey from North Yorkshire totaled 1400 miles including the channel tunnel though this was a short journey compered to many who attended.

This was my first Houten fair and although its not really possible to directly compare it to Hamm it is in my opinion leaps and bounds ahead of Hamm.

Having been to both the plain fact is that I cannot see me ever doing Hamm again.......too crowded, too crowded, too big and no vemom's.

It was great to be in a venue where you could actually see friends across the hall and in this case saw many that I'd not seen for years.

The cafe was good, it sold good beer so I was sorted.

Strangely we got pulled by UK Customs going out of England, nosy **ckers wanted to know everything about us and we fully expected internal examinations etc on the way back but got let through for a change.

The loss of Hamm as a venue for us crazy hot keepers has I believe resulted in Houten being of major importance and the choices of hots available both in the venue and in the hotel the night before was staggering.

Having promised to buy only the pre-ordered snakes I failed/relented and came home with 10 critters....and a box of choccies for my ever trusting wife!!!

Priced started to drop at 3pm and at one stage I was a guy selling 6 ammos (not the nicest I've seen) for 75 Euro.

The bulk was captive bred though there were a few wild caught critters including recently caught Australian Elapids??? The mind boggles!!!

As for the rest of the show I did walk around and there was a lot for sale and it was nice to see stuff other than flaming Royal Pythons!!!

I'd like to thank my companions in the weekends travel for their company Cheers to Riggers, Stu (How fast???) and Adam.

I'd also like to thank my friends from Estonia, Sweden and Finland for their friendship and a very good night at the hotel!

PMSL most of the night!

Oh and in case your wondering what I bought......some buzz worms, a neat schleg (and not another one of them boring golden worms) and a few other critters.

I'll post images once I gote 'em housed and settled....offf for tea and a bacon buttie!!

Now when is th next veomous show.........ahhh Germany April.........!

Finally as I have my breakfast i'll be thinking of my Estonia friends as they drive back across northern Europe and should get home tomorrow (Tuesday)

Woohooo - I've been saying that about Hamm for ages! Houten is far better!

We never got stopped but Kent police did ask us a lot of questions! WTF has it got to do with them how much money we have?? We never got stopped on the way back either, there was a car already in the booth - seats removed the lot!! OucH!

Yeah we got asked how much money we were taking out, where we were staying, they wanted proof of that too. Mind you, Graeme's slightly evasive, one word answers were doing nothing to help the situation!!
We also saw the car in the inspection hut with no seats!!! the owner/driver looked well p*ssed off!!

Big thanks to Graeme for organising the trip, Ian who seemed to either be permanently asleep or moaning 'cos his water snakes wouldn't bite him, Adam, who looked like death warmed up most of Sunday.........tsk tsk, if you're going to hoot with the owls at night, better be able to soar with the eagles in the morning As for fast? well you weren't complaining when we were back in Blightly before our scheduled shuttle had even boarded!!
