Default dwa mimics

is there any species that can be kept that would be similar to taking care of more dangerous species? as a 'break-in' phase?

Radiated Rat snakes can keep you on your toes, if you want something quick and bitey

as has said before nothing like the real thing but i kept false water cobras (still do) before i went all in so to speak but it was a natural progresion for me after many years of working and owning snakes from puppy tame corns to big nasty retics and everything in between.
my advice would be get a falsy or mangrove and get your hooking and handling down to a tee treat them as proper hots with all the protoco;s you would use for the real thing/ i would also advise you find a good teacher who you can gleen info from and show you how you should handle hots. i would imagine most people on here had a mentor of some kind i did and i thank him for it god bless him

As has been said they are good for preparing you for things striking at you but I have to admit I struggle to treat my Boiga with the same caution I treat true venomous.

There's no species that work as a good stepping stone to be honest. Boiga are not like front fanged species and they won't prepare you that much except for some of the more delicate asian vipers perhaps.
If you're looking to get into DWA snakes the best thing to do is find a good mentor and learn the correct handling/care techniques from them using real DWAL venomous species.

I had some DWA training a while back and before the person who trained me let me train with DWA he let me have a go with a very aggressive False water cobra and basicly gave me a hook and told me to keep the head away from me using the hook, this worked very well I thought and with a couple of sessions i had the hang of it. But nothing quite prepares you for the real thing IMO.

I picked up a CB09 Radiated Rat on Monday, not struck at me yet, but you can see her giving me the evil eye. lol

To be fair, I only handled her to remove her from her bag, as she managed to hold on to it somehow.

Managed a quick piccy while changing her water. Letting her settle in for now.
