What breaks glass is stress, and stress happens when there is a significant temperature difference across the glass or on either side of it.
If you started with a cold bulb and a cold piece of glass then chances are it won't crack but just warm steadily as the bulb warms. To make things even more favourable you could paint a small black square on the back of the glass next to the bulb which will have the effect of absorbing more heat sooner. Sooner or later though the glass is going to get very hot. I would offset the lamp with a support of some sort to let some air flow around the area. Just bear in mind that glass never cracks because of heat alone, but because it is heated too quickly. If you can heat it slowly or leave some air space you will not normally have a problem |

I have a glass viv for my baby beardie - so has a spotlight - I dont have any issues with heating (took me a while to get the temps right though in the beginning but probably mainly due to it being small) the bulb isnt resting on the glass but is hanging inside about an inch maybe from the glass and I havent had any problems with it cracking or anything
