Default Leopard Geckos and Fish Tanks

Can you keep Leopard Geckos in fish tanks which have already been used by fish? Only, I went to the pet store today and they told me that you can't because there is some bacteria which is harmful to them. I've never heard about this before, can anyone confirm it?
Thanks.

So you've had no problems? Have you had fish in the tank before? Did you put the heat mat under substrate or the tank?

So, what do people think seriously? I really don't fancy paying out for a new Vivarium, but equally I don't want to kill any new pets with fish bacteria!
