Default Ceramics

Is it just me or is the design of ceramic heaters, leaving somewhat to be desired.

Just put in my first 150w using a Lucky Reptile Thermo Socket plus Reflector and what a carry on.

Firstly you would seem to have to grow a third hand to push down the safety catch with a screwdriver whilst unsrewing the two parts. Then having drilled the hole in the roof to attach it, slacken a grub screw to release the wire, two more screws inside to allow the flex to move and finally undo two screws to release the flex.

Then you rebuild it all and the fun really begins. You have to reattach and retighten screws which are now on the ceiling of your viv and then the really hysterical part of trying to get the guard and second part of the lampholder attached which means sticking your hand down a longish tube and trying to get it started which is not easy when the threads are not in the best of condition anyway.

Am I doing something wrong here or is this a common condition for ceramics. On the plus side though they really do their job well just wish the fixing side was a little easier

Good fun innit

My latest viv set up is a glass exo terra, so the thermo socket sits on top of the mesh, my last wooden ceramic set up was a right pain as I made my own guard, never again!.Are you putting the socket/reflector in the viv then?
