Default Ceramics Do They

give off more heat per watt than bulbs (say does a 50W ceramic give off more heat than a 50W heat bulb) and do u have to have the heat resistant cable stuff for all wattage or just the higher watts

i would personally say that the ceramics seem to give off more heat than the bulbs do. they actaully contain a metal element inside which heats up inside. heat cable wise i would recommend going for a good quality cable if not a heat resistant cable

yes a ceramic will give off more than the same rated bulb becuase the 50w on a bulb has to power the light plust the heat it gives off, where as on a 50w ceramic none of the power is wasted it all used purley to heat!

a bulb, the heat given off is waste...hence new energy saving bulbs.

i wish i could afford to replace all my spot bulbs, but its a catch 22, i cant afford to replace them, so waste much more on leccy.

They give out loads more heat than a bulb and also take longer to cool down, asd the thickness of the cermaic and the airspace inside act like a radiator retaining heat!

As far as the cable goes MAKE SURE that you use HEAT RESISTANT cable otherwise over time the outer insulation will will cook and go brittle and then it will short out and potentially ruin your stat (happened to my brother last week). B&Q do a 1.5mm 2-core heat proof cable (about 10 quid for 10m) which is great for use on any cermaic, obviously you should use a cermaic fitting aswell and most fo these come fitted with good cable anyhow!
