Heatmat isn't working ?!

I noticed recently that my on/off thermostat was constantly lit up, so I checked the temperature of the mat and there was no heat coming off it at all...

so I plugged the heatmat into the mains to check if it was the heatmat but the heatmat started to heat up!

what could be the problem????

it sounds like the relay in the stat is stuck in open position ..

who makes your stat
