Dimmer Stats

Will a dimmer stat work safely and effectively on large heatmats ? We want to switch one of our snakes back to a heat mat as he isnt happy with a heatlamp. If the dimmer will work on a mat I wont need to move the rest of the stack to put a new stat in his viv. There is a 22" x 11" mat in the viv already but we have been using a lamp rather than the mat. I think you would be better off getting yourself a pulse stat as dimmers are really disigned for bulbs, as much as it would probably work i dont know if it would damage the mat on a long team basis, somebody whos electrically clued up would be able to tell you what effects it would have.

As long as you are using over 40W of mat, then a dimmer is fine (Thats if its a habistat dimmer, I dont know about other makes and their thresholds)

i would get a pulse, i find them better.

Thanks for the replies guys. I totally agree a pulse stat is by far the best stat to use, its what I use on most of my mats and cables. This was just for a temporary period until I can get some help moving the stack. It is a habistat dimmer but I will check the mat is over 40watt. Once, again, many thanks.
