4-Channel Computer Serial Temperature Monitor & Control Relay Board (3190)

that will do the job.

microclimate do a high end thermostat that records temps on the unit and you can connect it to a computer.

You can buy additional sensors for it. Thats all i can say as ive never owned one just looked at it a few times can be found on there website.

Default Almost automated

Hi,
I am new to reptile keeping but have a setup for my Veiled Chameleon which I have automated. I use X10 to control the heating and lighting, misting and fogging. X10 sends commands over your mains cabling and is quite reasonably priced. The computer control unit has a USB interface and can store your timers so you don't need to have your computer connected. If there is a power cut then it still keeps all the settings.

I have my Sun Glo and Repti-Glo come on in the morning along with 30 minutes of Heat Wave. Every 2 hours I mist using a Pollywog for 1 minute. Every other hour I use the Fogger.

The cost is around £50 for the computer control unit and £15 each for the appliance modules - I have one for Sun Glo and Repti-Glo, one for the ceramic, one for the Pollywog and one for the Fogger.

I am now working on sensors to give me finer control over fogging and misting and the ceramic. I have a 4 sensor system which monitors temperature and humidity. Based on these results I can switch on the relevant unit. The sensors cost around £60. The disadvantage of the sensors is that you have to have a computer on. Fortunately, if the computer is not on then the system falls back to the timer based system. I also log all the information from the sensors. I believe that I could extend the sensor system to 8 temperature and humidity sensors for around £100.

I am writing the software myself and hope to have the system working over the next 2 weeks.

I am conscious of the cost of the system but feel that the flexibility it offers makes the outlay well worth it. The minimum system would be 2 x appliance units and 1 USB Control unit at a cost of £80. A single channel thermometer and humidity sensor would add around £20. You could therefore have an automated system for around £100 which would log the temperatures and humidity and control a basking light and fogger/misting system.

If anyone else is interested in this system then I can forward full details and let you know when the software is ready.
