Default heatmat pissing about quite urgent

my habistat 29" heatmat is seriously pissin about big time
the other day it wouldnt work at all
so i took it to the reptile shop and it decided to warm up and they said it was fine but to be honest it wasnt that warm but apparently it was reading in the 90's
but now
it starts to heat up then doesnt go any further and either goes cold or stays very slightly warm.
and ive got a lilttle heat mat which is much hotter so i can clearly tell thers a problem
but i need to sort this quickly as the bottoms not idealy reaching correct temps
its still under guarantee but the shop said they cant really take it back at the moment as it is warming up but goes no further

anyone got any advice or had this problem before ?

get a thermostat and a thermometer (habistat/microclimate or a few other makes). A pulse propertional thermostat will be better than a mat stat. Plug the heatmat into the thermostat. set the stat for 90 and attach the probe to the mat. Then use the thermometer to read the temperature of the mat. If it reaches 90 it's ok.

For small carpets for instance 90F will be about right. This will feel slightly warm but definately not hot. I don't think you can guage the heat by feeling it really. Much better to go by a thermometer, and the snake behaviour.

What snake do you have? and what are you housing it in?

If it's faulty, they are not reparable, so you need to get a new one.
