Question which wood????

which wood would you use to build vivs and racks,ive seen people say MDF but i dont think it looks to good,or do you paint or varnish it with a non toxic paint or varnish? please help

I use contiboard, just make sure you seal the joints!!

Hi; contiboard and similar laminated particle boards are probably best - they come in different 'wood' colours and effects and this is what most viv builders use. It's also available from the usual DIY retailers. Marine ply can be used - the glue is waterproof, as opposed to regular ply - but can be harder to find and is probably harder to keep clean than laminate. MDF will need to be varnished or painted to make it waterproof, although there's a waterproof version available from some timber suppliers. I guess in the end it's down to what kind of look you are aiming for. The joints should be sealed with aquarium sealant which can be bought from various places - geocel is a brand I've used in the past. Hope this helps.
