Building a viv for my CWD from scratch or converting a wardrobe?

Also if I build it from MDF what would I need to do to make it safe for CWD to live in?

for mdf yes. something like yacht varnish is good. i would personally convert the wardrobe. it's kore like what they would need

wardrobes are generally nowhere near deep enough. you need 2 foot minimum or youll get snout rubbing problems, most wardrobes tend to be 16-18" deep. if you can find a deeper one thats suitably wide then go for it. generally they are fairly narrow as well though. you want 4 foot width minimum, ideally 5+.
