Need help with stats

Hey what stats should i use for a heat bulb and a ceramic heat lamp? Can I use the same type of stat with both heating implements?

Dimmer is best for a light, pulse is better for a ceramic but you can use a dimmer with them both.

So what might occur if I use a pulse stat with the ceramic? Will it be less effective than a dimming stat?

Also, I have stat I was given a while ago. I'm 99% sure it works but it doesn't clearly say on it whether its a mat/dimming or pulse stat?! Any tale-tale signs that will help me tell them apart?

If it doesn't say then it is most probably an on/off type.
A pulse stat is fine with a ceramic.

Also, I have a timer that was again given to me a while ago but i've used one before and I don't have any of the instructions/information with it. Can timers be used with any type of stat?

On/off stat being basically like a mat-stat?
(Having only ever used mat-stats I haven't quite got to grips with the other equipment when setting it up myself)
