Default Exo terra Thermometres - how reliable??

ive read in another thread that these are not suppose to be reliable

how true is this... because i used them in all my vivariums

i dont want to think ive been doing it wrong for all this time

??

If you mean a dial one, they can be out as much as 20f!!! I have used a professional temp gun to check this.

what idiot decided to sell thermometres 20f out... i know im a idiot for buying em, but you expect stuff like that to be accurate

them laser thermometres measure a surface dont they, not the airs heat??

Yes they measure a surface temp. But I have also teste this out with my probe thermometres...which I keep one of in each of my tanks at all times.

so its obviously best just to get some normale everyday thermometres to put in there

hiw are them ones you stick to the side of the viv

the ones they use on fish tanks

Probe ones are very good, it's what I use.

I would only trust my digital probe thermometer. As has been said the dial ones are well out.

what do you mean those disc shaped things slightly bigger than a 50p piece that you stick on with a suction cup/sticky pad??

Those things are great if you like to watch a needle swing back and forth, they're also pretty good for skimming across ponds or sneaking that little something extra into your mums christmas cracker.

only mirroring whats been said really but those dial thermometers and hygrometers are totaly useless, get yourself a decent digital thermometer if you want to measure ambient temps.
