Default positioning

Hi all,

If I screw an Arcadia D3 Reptile Lamp Compact like this:

Arcadia - D3 Reptile Lamp Compact

into a normal dome lamp holder so that the end point of this lamp faces downwards I presume that will be pretty useless as the emission of this bulb is mainly along side.

Am I right that the lamp has to be positioned only with the long side towards the area it's aiming at?

yeah turn it on its side and it will be brighter,if you need it brighter still,go to a hydroponics shop and buy some mylar reflective sheeting, and then make a little hood for it out of metal and cover with the mylar.u could use tin foil but it absorbs certain uv rays so it wont be as good as the mylar

I found now one lamp that I hope that can give enough UVB even through the top mesh. It should also work with a dome lamp holder.

It's the Exo Terra Compact lamp:

Exo Terra - Products: Compact Bulbs

It says there:
"The spiral shape of the bulb enables vertical or horizontal mounting without compromising performance."

I ordered a 10.0 one with 26 W from Pet Supplies | Aquariums | Fish Tanks | Ponds in Essex. Those lamps have been on ebay only occasionally.

I ordered already a solarmeter on ebay for £ 69 and will check how much UVB rays actually enter the viv.

It's "only" for leos and maybe I leave it on only a few hours a day depending how much UVB I'll measure.
