think you need a different stat like a dimmer stat so it doesnt keep turning the bulb off and just lowers the current to ajust the temp.

As above, you haev the wrong stat. What you need is a dimminmg stat to alternate the power to the bulb rather then just cutting it out.

What you have is an on/off matt stat.

Also I am not sure if you can succesfully stat a UV bulb, however i am sure if you drop arcadiajohn a PM he wil let you know. I assume it's a UV bulb rather then just a heat bulb.

Hello, if you have a 75w spot lamp they are not u.v emitting and just provide a very good and reliable heat source, yes they get hot quick. This is because they use halogen capsule tech and use very thick internal metal reflectors. This pushes all of the heat and light forward and stops waste assoiated with tungsten spots. They get hot quick and need not run for long saving you a fortune in running costs. They should also last 6-12 months saving another fortune on cheap spot lamps.

You should use a dimming stat to get the best out of the lamp you should find it runs for short periods to maintain a basking temp in the hot end. Linear U.Vtubes should be used to provide light and u.v

Please feel free to contact me for any help

If they are not MV bulbs then they can be controlled via a dimming termostat. These also do not emit UV and as such you also need a UV bulb, preferably a UV tube.

The only bulbs that cannot be controled via a dimming thermostat at present are MV bulbs.

John above will give you the best advice

Even with a lower wattage you still really need a dmming stat.

Since you were unaware that the bulb could be dimmed, I simply mentioned the UV, as the only bulbs that cannot be dimmed are MVB bulbs that produce heat and UV. I didnt want you to be mistakly thinking that the bulb you had produced UV. Since you only have a standard halogen bulb, just wack a dimmer stat on and it will be fine.

On/off stat for matts
Dimmer stat for bulbs
MVb or combi UV and heat bulbs cannot currently be statted.
