Whats going in the viv?

Conti board is probs better for most things than MDF.

Cheers,
Mark.

contiboard is splash proof and will handle a bit of water spillage. MDF is more useful for vivs with high humidity where there's constant moisture.

I'm sorry............ how do you work that out?!! MDF is untreated and porous. Contiboard is laminated MDF or Chipboard.
How can MDF be be more waterproof than something that is laminated?

coat it with pva glue that may waterproof it..
or could you put water proof lino or tiles in the bottom and seal round the edges with silicone?

The substrate should soak up minor spillages though.

MDF isn't waterproof, contiboard is splashproof but not waterproof.
I wouldn't have thought a BD would create much need for waterproofing however,
you can use 1 or 2 coats of PVA to seal the board. I'd also suggest some silicon around the edges.
For my water dragon I did the above and then created a 6" high tub from perspex which was adhered to the 5 sides of the vivarium.

Heres an idea, this is wat i do. my friend is a roofer and aquired some natural slate tiles, these have been disinfected throughly and quite large i use these to stand my water bowls on and also my snakes like to cool down on these and also only seems to only poo on this as well, which makes it excellent for keeping the viv clean.

stops any splashing as it drys rapidly on the slate.
