Default Why do New vivs come bayonet fitment??

As above, its one of the most rediculous things iv experienced with herp equipment..
Why, Oh Why do they sell vivs with bayonet fitment bulbs when they MUST realise that 80% of standard bulbs and about 95% of herp vivarium bubls come as screw fitment.. ITs bugged the hell out of me for the last decade and after having gone to two seperate bulb stores only today and finding diddly squat i need to ask and vent about this, lol
Is there actually any particular reason? or is it just complete lack of sanity?

I also use bayonet. I always bulk buy whenever I need bulbs, been in that boat before where no-one had any. Very bad day.

Now I just keep a stock of at least 5 bulbs lol and I panic when I get down to 3!

You can get conversion attachments (bayonet-to-screw fitting) but this will only really work if the viv is tall enough.

i think your find it cheaper to use bayonet than put in a ceramic , if you want ceramic at a good price viv bits on ebay is a good place to start

That's simple, Bayonet is the british standard for light fittings, unfortunately with the majority of branded basking lamps being imports they use the standard over there (ES Screw)

It is actually quite easy to get Bayonet fittings over here, just visit any electrical wholesaler (TLC for example) they will easily provide you with BC R80 lamps for basking lights, most supermarkets tend to aim more towards ES, primarily because the lamps are aimed at the fittings they and others sell, which are usually ES due to them being imported from other countries.
