i looked after some adults once that had never been handled... they were nasty you had to use a broom just to keep them back while you filled their food bowl. but the babe is cute!!!

Do these really make good pets?? I would have to wait a few years, as my little boy is only 20 months old, and also my 2 cats!! I just don't fancy watching the rat drag my 2 pussy cats across the floor . Can they be as friendly as the normal smaller pet rats?

thats understandable LOL they are pretty big rats,

these rats can make wonderful "pets", with handling and time from a very early age they learn you wont hurt them and dont find you as a threat, alot of GPR owners I have talked to (down here) have noticed a trent where their rats prefer one person over others and are "friends" with that one person (normally the one that handles and feeds), some tolerate other people and will happily be poked and prodded but some dont like contact with anyone else. They will not be as silly friendly as Domestic rats are and you need to remember they are exotics at the end of the day, one perfect example is a male a friend of ours has will not allow anyone to pick him up until he has checked his "man bits".

There is the other side as well though a rat that just doesnt want to be friendly or hanst been handled proberly wont turn out like that and their bite does hurt just ask Fixx,

if you ever decide to get one in the future and are looking for one thats been handled alot go and view before you comit to buy, ask the owner to get the rat out and handle him/her yourself they will still be a bit scatty when young as they are still learning but a well handled young one shouldnt be too bad, if its an older one you are going to view again ask the owner to get them out it tells you alot about how friendly they are with said owner and again hold the GPR yourself and see how it tolerates other people holding it, if the owner wont get this rat out you know its possibly not a friendly one and is purely a huge enclosure watch and leave to it rat.
