Default skunk owners.. warning regarding flea treatments

as before, if people could cross post this to places i am not allowed to share information..

this comes from a skunk info site i belong to, more usa based, but none the less, important info..

recently some animals have passed away possibly due to an active ingredient called "Permethrin".

It's found in some flea and tick products.

Frontline and Adams products carry this in them so I would not recommend using these products.

It might be ok for dogs but not for our skunks.

Advantage would be a wiser choice.

It was a spray that was used that wound up possibly taking the lives of the animals.

thanks

Nerys

i've used frontline before too it has to be said...

but then i know people who have fed grapes to skunks for years without seeing a problem.. and ditto avocado, again i know people who feed it, and have included it in the diet for the last 3 years or so..again, without seeing a problem..

there are products that don't contain permeths.. maybe look for those instead?? it may be that some skunks are more sensitive to it than others?

If you have used the Spot on Frontline without worry, maybe it was the spray being inhaled by the skunks that caused the problems?

frontline doesn't have any permethrine in it, it's only fipronil.

If that is aimed at me again, I only welcome accurate, first hand information on my forum.

My skunks haven't died from eating avocado flesh yet either...
