But White lions arent ever a separate subspecies, they're a colour morph which does not occur often in the wild and whose numbers have been blown out of proportion by our selective breeding. African lions as a whole are classed as vulnerable and i think its silly for the IUCN to classify white lions as endangered especially when they're not even a distinct subspecies.

Im not saying white lions dont deserve any money at all but they get a disproportionate amount of money and attention in regards to other species. They never occurred frequently so why should we breed to an unnatural degree and then try and convince ourselves we're doing a good job at conserving them. Theres so much more like gorillas, leopards and other large mammals that do need conserving and could use the money that is spent on white lion conservation.

We should conserve species that are vanishing because its our fault most of them are! Global warming is partly our fault, so is poaching, deforestation etc so of course we should try and rectify our wrongs. The white lion hasn't 'evolved' out of these new environments but has simply occured due to genetics. It is theoretically a freak of nature.

I don't think it's for anybody to say what animal DESERVES to have people helping with their conservation.
Unforunately people do have to decide what is conserved and what isnt. There isnt enough money to save everything, so they prioritise. I just dont see why a genetic anomaly derserves such press, time and money.

But they do occur in the wild... I'm sure I read about a herd of white lions living wild in Africa?

Because in 2003 The Global White Lion protection trust introduced a pride full back into the range where individuals used to be caught in the early 1900's. Where we took white individuals from primarily tawny coloured prides, we have now introduced a full white pride.

Cute but not what a place of conservation should be concentrating on.White African lion do rarely pop up in the wild. But they are only a recessive colour mutation of the African lion they are NOT a differant lion species. They do not deserve this constant breeding there NO use the the wild population.

African lion(normal) X African lion(normal) = .

100%Afrcan lion(normal).

Plus horrendous amounts of inbreeding as the founding population of white lions is so small. Its not uncommon for zoo's to mate fathers to daughters etc.
