Awesome vid, the parents are HUGE! And very healthy looking

I am lucky enough to live down the road from West Mids Safari Park who have 5 or 6 white lions AND white siberian tigers

They are stunning.

They're gorgeous but it annoys me when so much money is dedicated to their conservation when they are basically a genetic anonamoly. More an attractive curiousity than a priority in my opinion.

Tell that to the tribal elders who believe that white lions are the most sacred animal in Africa and are a message from God that once exterminated in the wild, the whole of Africa would cease to exist...

But its not the tribal elders who spend all the money on preserving these animals. Yes they're cultural significant but in terms of conservation priority they're novel.

True, but conservation priorities are different for different people. White Lions fulfill a prophecy for some and are a glorified zoo attraction to others.

As for money, I'm not sure you can argue White Lions are any less deserving of attention than any threatened species just because of their colour. Don't you think the fact they are a genetic mutation that have evolved from yellow lions makes them more deserving? Why concentrate on long lived species that are vanishing but not evolving species hunted dead before they establish?

Most of the few hundred left are in captivity so they are as good as extinct in the wild anyway, and still hunted. I say that puts them somewhere just behind Gorillas but thats just my opinion.

Aren't they the most precious little grumble butts??

I don't think it's for anybody to say what animal DESERVES to have people helping with their conservation. I think all animals have a place and deserve the right to thrive.
