*grins*

although skunks as pets are only legal in 11 states in the USA, i have read somewhere that they estimate there are some 5 million pet skunks kept in america!

skunks are not all smelly nightmares.. for starters the vast majority kept as pets have the anal glands removed, and even those left fully loaded, with the right socialisation, rarely spray in captivity..

skunks, when tamed, bond stupidly well with things like humans and other domestic animals, they can be a handful, they are intelligent and willful animals with a mind of their own, but they can also become very loyal, very loving companions

i can't think off hand if skunks are legal as pets in your state, but if they are i could probably rustle up someone who would let you meet one!

and of course, should you ever come to the uk, you are more than welcome to come and meet some of my 11

I would be very interested in knowing someone with one in my area or even in my surrounding area. I have been reading alot of post in this forum and didnt even know about some of the animals you guys have. I had to google majority of them. I have found you guys to be VERY interesting and I sit and read posts and look at pics all day long. Very fascinating. Imma upload some pics of my measely boa's lol. Im not worthy of this forum, lol.

there is nothing measly about boas! they are, i think overall, my fav. species of snake, i do have a few here, tho it has to be said i am more into the mammals these days

i have a small and as yet still not finished (time you know!) site if you want to look at some more pics of skunks!

http://www.skunkshack.co.uk - Skunk Shack

there are also some great sites in the USA. Skunk Haven is a well known one, as is Skunks As Pets

i've just checked, and yes, skunks are not legal in the state of washington dc.. my american geography is crap i'm afraid, but this is the how it stands in the states at the moment...

Skunk Haven&#8482: State Laws / Skunk Ownership

have a look and see if there is a state near you, or one that you go to, or might go to, and i can ask my american skunk contacts where to find you a skunk to cuddle!

my other favourite at the moment, has to be the coatis (coatimundi) that i have here on "borrow". they are supposed to be being sold, but me and they are good mates.. and their owner and most other people i know, are fully aware that i'd like to keep them, lol..

there are pics of them on the 'shack under news and events, and then brackenhurst talk

*raises hand* I'm American... I just happen to LIVE in the UK. Am a Washingtonian at heart.

Honestly, skunks are fantastic little critters (I even enjoyed watching the wild one that would come to my Mom's back door in TX for the food we left out for our baby 'possum)!! Absolutely amazing!

until someone has kept a skunk they wil not know the joys of keeping one they will also not know how a house can be trashed by 1 lol
But they are beautiful and very inteligent creatures and have many downfalls such as trashing everything they find hehe but their upsides make up for it.
i personaly think they are better than dogs or cats
