Default Ferrets

I am planning on getting a ferret from a rescue soon. I know they are best off in pairs. But i want to get 1 just now as it will be my 1st fuzzie and in a month or so get another for company after i have gained a little confidence.

Does anybody know if their would be a problem with this. It would be 2 jills or 2 hobbs that i would be getting. Just want to make sure if the 1st ferret would be accepting to another after a month or so?

Thanks.

I think it depends on the ferret. Loki was on her own for a little while and was very accepting of cherry and blossom when they came, and a pecking order was established straight away (cherry always has to be the boss ). However I had 2 half eu polecat girls and Loki didn't like them AT ALL...

They were introduced to Casper a little while ago and they all got on very well.

However I do know there are some ferrets who wont accept company at all.

In my opinion I think you'd be better off rescuing a pair straight away. That way they'd be a lot happier and 2 ferrets arent much more to look after than one. In fact when Loki was by herself I found her more work as they NEED company, so I had to take her absolutely everywhere with me

Ferrets are always happeir in groups I found 3 was the magic number for me {this may not be the case with everybody]. It meant that I could have 1 out for brushing, claw trimmings etc without the other going bananas. I started with jills because they smell a bit less then the hobs. and spayed jills smell less still

Ferret Jills are generally very accepting of more jills and neutered hobs. neutered hobs are also very accepting of other neutered hobs and jills however if you have an un neutered male and try to introduce another male, neutered or not you may wind up with bloodshed. If you try to intorduce a girl he may be happy with this arrangement however you may wind up having a litter of un expected kits but I dont know how an entire male would take to a spayed jill. Bear these combos in mind when choosing your first fuzzbut and his/her future companion if you dont have them at the same time.

Yep, you will always have people telling you "one more wont have much of an effect on the food bill", but when you x that 5 you realise it is.
