Default APH babies - HELP

My APH has had babies.

I thought she could be pregnant but was not sure. Tonight heard sweeking. This was not planned. They have never been housed together but did let them play together (until i read that this was not a good idea) i never saw any breeding (it must have been quick). Mum is just over 5 months old. she has been out to eat and drink as seems ok. Dont want to check to much have just left them alone. Researched as much as i can but just wanted to check that leaving her alone and giving extra food, water and treats is all i need to do.

Your recommended to not go near them for 2 weeks. New moms can be funny and will eat the young with the smallest of disturbances. Just keep feeding her up and offer her plenty of protein.

i have 2 fe,males and a male and i suspect that the females may have been pregnant when i got them. both gave birth within a week of each other. they are all kept in a triple stack hutch in identical conditions. one of the mums had 4 babies and three are still going strong. their eyes have opened, they are starting to explore the house and are soooo cute. but the other mum gave birth a few days later. i looked into the wheel area and saw a few babies dotted around so backed out asap. an hour later all the babies had gone and i heard no squeaks. i left it for 10 days and never heard anysqueaking at all from her house. sure enough, she killed 5 babies and i found them dotted about her nesting box.

the "good" mum is a very attentive and seems to like being a mum. she has never been aggressive at all and lets me do a little clean out of her nest box. the other one was a whole other kettle of fish. she seemed freaked out by her babies and i wasnt that suprised when i found them all dead. it was obvious that she wasnt very happy from the start.

i have been supplementing both mums with lots of cockroaches and mealies coated in nutrobal and calium carbonate. they also seem to like scrambled egg and raw minced beef.

it is very reccomended not to touch or peep at the babies for around 10-14 as the mother obv will kill them. i hope you have taken the wheel out if not then please do so, as she may put the babies on her wheel and leave them ther. when the time is up its is a good idea to get the mum to come out to the soun/smell of mealy's and then when she goes to eat them you can have a sneaky peek also a few days later hold one and see how the mum reacts if its good then try to pick up anoth and so on so (this is not from personal expeiriance only i am on a hedgehog forum)

hope this helps connor.....

Thank you for the reply. I took the wheel out about a week ago. I am also a member of the pygmy hedgehog forum. My user name is Rose on there. I have spent all night on both sites talking to lots of breeders. I did alot of research before i got my hedgehog but i am a worrier and feel you can never have enough advice.
