I have been thinking about getting an exotic furry for some time. Things I have looked into a bit are Sugar Gliders and Richardsons Ground Squirrels. I am put off Sguars Gliders due to the smell, however, and am so far liking the idea of the RGS, but wondered if there is anything else I should consider/research?
I am in no rush to buy something, and we have a holiday in November, so it wouldn't be until at least after that. I do want something a 'bit different', I admit. I would prefer something that can live indoors, in a cage/enclosure of some sort, but have a reasonable amount of room, so it could need a fairly large indoor enclosure. I would also prefer something that costs not much more than £500 a pair/group, but would consider spending a bit more. Preferably somethign that would be fairly hand tame. Thoughts/suggestions wlecomed, please. |

Have you smelt sugar gliders? I seem to be crazy in that I really like that smell, its sickly sweet just the kind of thing I like. Also girlies tend not to smell so much.
Maybe richardson's, or Prairie Dogs which are similar in looks? You could also look into flying squirrels, I hear if you get them at a young age and handle them LOTS and use a bonding pouch, they become very tame. They look a little sugar glider esque. If you wanted something bigger and very exotic, maybe a genet? I think they run about a grand a pair so you'd probably pay a little over £500 for the one, but I dont think they mind being alone, and they are so very beautiful and can apparently become very tame. |

Thankyou for replying.
I love the idea/look of Genets, but I can't help feeling they would be better off in a large outdoor enclosure in a pair than a single one in a living room, for example? I think maybe they are something fo rfurther into the future maybe. There is a reptile shop about a 2 hour drive from me that sells quite a few small furriesand they have prairie dogs, RGS, Sugars gliders, opposums and flying squirrels in, so when my husband is here, we'll maybe have a drive over and have a chat with the owner and have alook at everything, an dtak eit from there. |
