Default Virginia opossums

How do keepers on here care for them? I see American keepers let them run the house, is this practical, or should they be confined? Do they become friendly and tame or are they more "looking at" animals? Any body have any idea if they would learn to tolerate ferrets or would they consider ferrets lunch?

hiya i dont keep them indoors but some people do, they require a large enclosure if keeping them in a indoors or outdoors cage its recomended that they are kept in a 8X6ft enclosure minimum.
they become VERY tame if handled from a young age although not sure how they would get on with ferrets doubt they would attack them as they are quite relaxed animals but would your ferrets attck the VO?
they are quite hard to find UK captivebred but a few were advertised recently on a wholesalers list not sure if they are still on there or not.

I guess because I've seen pictures of those gnashers that they would be quite ferocious lol! I doubt my ferrets would want to hurt them but they do love to play, they might terrorise the poor thing, so seperate play times all around I guess! There is no hurry any way, I would need a bigger house before I could have a cage that big! They are gorgeous creatures though!

Hi

My virginia opposum is kept indoors, she is housed in a large ferret cage at the moment, when i first got her she looked very fierce and growled alot. Now she spends most of her time outside of her cage either cuddled up on my daughters bed or sitting on my daughters shoulders.

Her boyfriend is housed in a similar manner at a friends house. I have posted pictures of the pair of them on thread called "O and boyfriend" in the pictures section. There are some newer pictures towards the end of the thread.
As far as price goes the current price ranges from £300-£400 each, although a pair are normally cheaper.

Ours are an unrelated pair that we hope to be breeding them in January, we will keep everyone posted on their progress. Please pm if i can be of any further help.

Thank you for your time.
