Skunk question

Hi Guys,

I've just joined ere today. On sunday i got my first Skunk, Fifi, she was 7wks old on Sunday. She is settling in really well, she has been to the vets already for her wormer and is booked in to have her distemper injection at 12wks old.

What i want to know is what other injections do you skunk owners give yours, I've been told a few different things some people saying give dog and cat injections also some people saying give just parvo injections?

Can anyone advise whats best?

Mine have the puppy and kitten version of the parvo and distemper they have it in the ferret dose though (not the ferret jab just the dose)

They usually have the distemper 1st then 2 weeks later the parvo one

Hiya & congrats on your 1st skunk

Which vet have you used as I am also in Brum - I use Roy Earle in Shirley - Amicus vet practice.

Roy uses dog/puppy distemper & parvo and cat flu & parvo - 1 lot at 12 weeks followed by second 2 weeks (or more) later. They then cant go on the ground in public for at least 2 weeks after second jabs are done.

I would think most vets might used slightly different combinations of jabs depending on who they get their meds & skunk info from. There is apparently debate as to the usefulness of the dog/cat jabs on skunks & other exotics as there is not yet enough research done on how effective they actually are.
