the best way to litter train is to stand thier wheel in a litter tray, i use chinchilla sand as litter. most hogs will automatically go there as most will do it in the wheel.
i dont use any heat source in the actual cage. if you have a central heated house its probably warm enough anyway but if your house does get cold i would suggest an oil filled raditor you can set on a thermostat.

Hi I use Kitchen Roll in my litter trays with the wheel on top. I find when they use the wheel they naturally relieve themselves with it ending up in the tray. My hedgies will now go into the litter tray even without the wheel being there,

For heating I use a thermostatic controlled Tower heater that way I can ensue the room remains at a stable temperature both throughout the day and night.

Yup great advice.. another way to help litter train her is to put all her poops in the tray aswell, so that way she'll hopefully get the idea. They naturally like to go toilet in one place anyway.

also try to put the litter tray and the food/water bowls at opposite ends of the viv/zoozone because most animals dont like to poop near where they eat

thanks everyone
i give her a hot water bottle on a night to keep her warm at the minute but when it gets colder it will be one of the oil filled heaters.

Thanks

Default Heat Mat

I use a small heat mat on a thermostat. The lead is placed through the back of the viv (this can be done with a Zoozone and a small drill)
The wire is covered with gaffer tape and the heatmat is stuck down. I place three sheets of newspaper over the heatmat and cover with shavings as usual. I have had no probs and there is no way they can chew the wires. Good luck
