I dont recomend keeping them in cages, get a hutch(BIG) or let them run around the house, mine does, he is fine, smells lovely, very friendly, they tend to get more nippy in cages/hutches as are not paid much attention , he is alone from 5am till 5pm and gets on fine.

How does keeping them in a cage differ so much to keeping them in a hutch?!?! How does being in a cage make them more nippy??!? Am I missing something here.....?

If they are left in the cage/hutch all the time they can get resentful, but I agree I don't really see the difference between cage and hutch...I mean is a 3ft hutch better than a 5ft cage?

Unneutered ferrets stink whether they are clean or not. Males in season are horrendous i coped for one season and then got my male snipped!!!
I had a male and a female in the house back then the male was worse than the female and rubbed himself with wee wee and then on the furniture it was gross.

I now have three neutered boys and they now live outside, they still have a smell but its no worse than a dog or a mouse. They have a unique body odour.

They are destructive little so and so's so i would think strongly about having them in the house. They scratch and pull at everything they will climb up everything and they jump as well which can be hazardous.

I feel so much better about having mine outside now. They lives in a huge cage that i had built for them, its 4ft long 5ft high and 4ft wide, they have toys galore and a litter tray that only one of them uses. I never bothered litter training my babies.

Thanks for all the advice, please keep it coming.

TBH the smell wouldn't bother me as I already keep APHs even tho alot of people say they smell I don't notice it apart from when i'm washing the wheels. I would defo have any of them dressed/snipped cos i'm not inteseted in breeding so don't see the point in not having it done

get 2 and bulid an out door run for them they will keep each other company .as for the person that says they dont stink if you look after them the males will when they come into season so i wouid get jills if ther to be kept in the house . your asking at the right time of year all the kits are about .dont be put of from geting bitten at first some will until they get used to you and if you have young kit that bites alot try feeding more they bite alot more when hungrey.
