Default How often and how much

Okay I have my skunk for just over 2 weeks. he settled down very well and started to trash the house down. He fits in perfectlywell with my other pets and feels at home. He plays with a few of my cats and my house rabbit all the time, which I think it is good he has made friends.

I know the breeder show me how much he feed Mackenzie while he was with him. I followed the guildline and carried on doing it. But one thing is I noticed he seems hungry all the time. Is it because skunks love their food and just want to eat all the time or Mack is really hungry and I haven't give him enough? He has all the choices of veg I could think of. In the morning I give him some scramble eggs with veg mixed in it. And dinner time, he has a big bowl of vegs and fruits, sometimes he has chicken wings. When he comes out at night, he dives into the food bowl straight away and within mins, he finishes the food and usually looks for some more.

So is that because I don't feed him often or not enough so he is acting like this? He is about 3 months old, althought he still looks tiny, I know he has grown since he arrived. He is def heavier when I picked him up. The size of his food bowl is a normal cat food bowl and I fill it up to the top, some of the veg are chopped and some are not. The morning breakfast is usually half the size of the bowl.

Oh and he is extremely active, he comes out from about 6pm until at least midnight before being put back in his crate for the day. Sometimes, depending if I have got time to watch him or not, he comes out in the day time as well. But during the activities time, he rarely go to sleep or slow down.

Please help. I don't want to overfeed him because I know skunk can be overfed and became fat. I just want to make sure he has enough of food each day annd I am not starving him. So how much and how often do you feed yours? I can then base of that and adjust anything if I can. Thanks.

Skunks are expert scroungers, Tinkerbell will wander round trying to raid the fridge straight after eating every meal with a look on her face that says 'I'm half starved in this house' ! It's hard to resist a pleading little face but if you dont, or you give too many treats they will end up with health problems, skunks are prone to obesity. Healthy treats are ok, we give ours bits of celery, swede etc out of the fridge, they think they have won then
