You can't...It's natural for them to turn into beetles as they are larvae of beetles!!

Look at the meal worm lifecycle at the top of this category for more info.

I thought that keeping them cold just prolonged the worm shape period. It doesn't stop them from turning into aliens all together does it?

It doesn't stop it alltogether but it does slow it down, giving them a much longer 'shelf-life'.
