Question locust egg laying medium?

hi, im in the process of trying to breed my own locusts. i have a well ventilated set-up, and heating appears to be fine, although i havent noticed any nookie yet.i was wondering what sand/soil is readily available and ideal to use for egg laying.at the moment i have argos playsand, but i have a sneaking suspicion that its no good for them.one other thing how do members keep the medium sufficiently moist without creating to much humidity? any tips/suggestions will be hugely appreciated. thanks in advance, ozyshane.

That sand should be fine....Sand is sand
Just water the sand once to get it wet to the bottom wet then No more, Its only damp to stop it collapsing and the eggs only need the barest bit of moisture to develop and hatch in

I would not agree with this. I had the same problems when i started breeding locust. On the 3rd type of sand i had success. The type i have found that works really well is light in colour and of a medium grain size. This holds the moisture well and does not collapse easily.

Yup, Moist peat compressed quite hard in a container at least 10cm deep. This will not collapse and will allow the babies to emerge.

Basic garden compost worked well for me. Could never keep the sand wet .
