Default Brown vs. Black

I wonder why some people prefer black over brown crickets as food and via versa ?

browns are just less noisy and less agressive - although they do die alot quicker

but i still prefer locusts and there easier to clean

I agree, the problem with locusts is simply the growth rate .. Clearly not an issue with adults / sub adults.

Now when you use locust hatchlings, they have the perfect size, but it doesn't take long until they grown up to a size which would be too large for slings .. in fact, once they size 2 etc. the slings seem to be scared of them

iv been buying livefoods for over 5 years (nothing compared to alot of you on here) i went right away for blacks, but when some escaped i went for the "silent" because of the singing all night. if your on the skint side like alot of people are blacks are worth more INO because browns seems to die alot quicker and smaller in size. blacks do eat eacher other but they wont if fed the right foods / have the space. i currently have over 300 large black crickets that i keep as pets/food for my fish / new bosc (coming tomorow) and even the cat and dog love to play and kill them.. plus the venus fly traps and hog.. all in all if your not a scardy cat blacks all the way, but if your a little scared of them go for browns INO

and i think (correct me if im wrong) blacks have more chittin (spelling?) than browns?

I am basically just looking for a sustainable (sp?) source of sling food .. It is just a waste to buy a whole tub with hundreds of small crickets just they grow out of the "suitable for slings" stage in a matter of days / weeks ... So for people who used both, out of experience, which ones mature quicker ? Brown or Black ones ?

Blacks are substancially better for nutrients and don't die on me as quick they dont ump has high either.

I get size 2's and 4's or mediums.

blacks seem more aggressive to me, I've been nipped by them a few times, but never by browns. Thus I'd prefer to use browns especially for slings or other delicate inverts as I want to lower the risk of the cricket fighting back.

I had a communal set-up of 3 D.diadema, two sadly died and their abdomens were half eaten, it was suggested large crickets had done it not the surviving Diadema, so I switched from large to size 3 crix, I haven't had the last one die, it moulted yesterday!
