yup, co2 is the only way, either than or a vacumn bag. you dont need to use any gas cylinders hot ice is the best but if you cant get hold of that then baking soda and vingegar works just as well and its loads cheaper.

Other gases can be used as long as they are inert.
Argon is one. Easily available used in Tig Welding as a shielding gas. It is denser than air so if you filled a tank it will stay in the bottom of the tank as it is heavier than air. It will kill humans in a confined space so could be used for mice and rats. Helium could be used plus theres a few more.
