well, I spose it possible! just unlikely lol...all bettas have different personalities, some more aggressive than others

dont be suprised if you find your betta tearing him apart out of the blue one day though

some bettas tolerate all fish, some even tolerate other males!

but then you get some that'll rip apart every other living thing they see.

Sounds like you were lucky!

i wouldn't recommend it, but if it seems to be working make sure you keep a close eye on them cuz traditionally bettas and guppies see each other as competition because each have very flashy fins. Don't be surprised if all seems fine one day and the next you come home and someone has a chunk missing (or worse). They may not care for a while but later they could rub each other the wrong way... Good luck tho.

i think its more that male bettas sometimes think guppys are female bettas thay are pretty ruff on the women when trying to breed, i think if it was a competion thing they would fight till the death like they do with each other not just nip fins, but i could be wrong just what i have observed

Sometimes male bettas tolerate guppies, sometimes they don't, I think you've been lucky as many male bettas will tear a guppy apart.

I'm afraid this is what happend a couple of days ago

But a 1/2" guppy took on a 2/3" betta, and unofortuantly they both died

But on a goon note, i can get more gupppies now, YEAH!.

You might be one of the lucky ones.

IME Bettas won't tolerate any other long-finned fish (guppies, gouramis, angelfish) in the tank as they like to be the prettiest...

My first Betta killed my angelfish...so now I keep my Betta in his own Bachelor Pad with just Otos and Amano shrimp for company.
