Default Oscars

OK so it has transpired that I like Oscars.
I have a tank out in the yard that has the potential to be revived and is big enough for such fish.

Thing is, I am a bit unsure how many oscars you have together, and what, if any, tankmates will be cool in an Oscar tank.

Any ideas to share guys?

buy about 6 or so little ones. When they grow up they will form pairs - you'll see them do this as they stay together. Sell on the four that don't pair up. You'll be quids in if they breed! 50p a baby oscar - loads of eggs each time!!! or just buy two, they'll be okay with each other, and two will be manageable when your cleaning the tank. I know a guy who had an adult, and it would charge him every time he went in the tank, it managed to cut his knuckles open!!! Awesome fish oscars are. I saw pics of some blue morphs once amazing colours.

Oscars- GREAT fish, I used to have some in an 8 ft tank a few years back.......as for how many, depends on tank size, but they do say 2 is company and 3 is a crowd.......reason being if 2 do happen to pair off cahnces are they will bully the 3rd one......as for tank mates your best off with the slightly larger species, so things like tinfoil barbs, geophagus, severums, etc etc........i'm not saying all of em, but they are possibilities, just depends how big the tanks is really.........and make sure you have VERY GOOD filtration.....messy blighters

Tank mates need to be soft water/low pH fish. Geophagus would be good, but make sure you get a big species as there are some small ones! Some people have kept gouramis with oscar before. I also imagine when fully grown you might be able to keep a shoal of snall fish in with them.

Single Oscars are not a good idea right? I've only really read about them being in pairs see.

hi mate,i keep oscars myself easy fish to keep as long as you follow a few rules.first a tank that is a suitable size for your fish, second good filtration is a must for this fish and also good water conditons is a must.i do a min of 0ne water change a week foe mine sometimes two.

tank mates

severums
firemouths
convicts
the list can go on

dont worry about low ph as all my fish are in normal tap water you are not keeping low ph fish as such like disscus and so on.

i would only go with the on oscar, when you get more than one you can run into problems.i would go with one oscar and a few tank mates.

they are easy to look after as look as you do it right.i will try to dig som pics out of mine
