Default Pond building!

I hvae now decided that after many long months of having a round plastic tub, i KNow want to expand my koi pond into a 10ft X 10ft X 4 ft pond, with decking round it etc, My patio is about 1ft off the garden and where i want to situate the pond i want the pond higher than the patio (so my dacshund doesnt fall in ), so at least a ft higher.

I would like to build it out of breeze-blocks and then render the outside and paint it white to look nice.

Could anybody tell me how thick or how many rows of breeze blocks i will need for the weight of the water (they will be built up 2ft high and then the liner sunk in), also what kind of footings will the brreeze blocks need?

many thanks

would breeze blocks be strong enough? Well they might be if you use enough, you'll need to set it up for aa few weeks to see if they are.

I did something similar last year and used one row of solid breeze blocks, they were thinck ones. they have been fine and I did 5 courses of block so fairly high. I then used a liner as well and the pond has run well since then.

I initially wanted to render but I hve a feeling someone advised me it may not stick due to damp. I can;t remember how true that is

I did a post on this forum detailing the build with pics, I'll try and find it

Just an idea, but go at least 3-4 foot below ground as well. After a metre down, the water will stay a constant temp year round which allows the fish somewhere to go during the winter months. Plus koi love depth so having a 2 foot above ground section than another 3-4 foot below would be great for them, plus would boost your overall capacity. It's not much extra work and very little extra cost (maybe 15-20 quid) for something that will be a huge benefit to both you and your fish.
