Default Firemouth Cichlid Fry

3 Days ago my firemouths went on a cleaning frenzy and cleaned all the pebbles in their prefered area of my 180 litre tank, the female lost her colour as usual and the male went on agressive mode defending her from the Oscars which are 20cm's in length (around 5 times his size), she chose her desired flat pebble and layed a mass of eggs in excess of around 400 i would say, now today i came to notice that some un fertile eggs turned white (around 20) then i noticed the other remaining eggs hatching off, i then looked into the pit the male had dug and it was full of tiny Firemouth Fry.

Should i remove them and place in a seperate tank or leave the Firemouths to look after them? if i take the Fry from the parents will they breed again in the future? this is the first successfull batch of eggs to hatch now i rehomed a greedy egg eating pleco, and the firemouths are laying eggs at a rapid rate, maybe every 8 days and 3 days to hatch.

And this post broke my ReptileForum Virginity, 1st post ive made so far

Personally if you want them to survive I would remove them from the tank.

If you leave them in the tank you may get a couple survive if your lucky.

Goodluck with them

Firemouths are excellent parents, and wont eat them

Leave them with the parents. Only when the babies mature enough to become a problem to the parents because they want to start breeding will they need to be removed (or if your tank is getting over run).
