If you want something special ...discus...although that's a whole other issue of Ro units but discus and neons is THE BEST lol ( although you prob don't have neons in a 30G tank )

A crown tail betta? Depends how big your tank is really.

Discus like WARM water, warmer than neons can live comfortably in. Cardinals would be a better bet. Why not? a 30g would be perfect for a large shoal of neons!

Discus and neons are perfectly fine together, the few degrees higher temp won't distress them and the perfect water qaulity discus thrive in outways the thought of neons not being happy in 30 degrees water.

Yes neons would look good in a 30G but i doubt people buy 30G tanks just for neons, i never said it wouldn't look good?

I beg to differ on the first point, in my experiance neons die alot younger when kept about 25/26c.

I misunderstood what you meant, apologies.

We'll have to agree to disagree, lots of different contradictory information is available about fish and everyone's an ichtyologist haha

I take the point that max neons can live is 28/29ish, you have to admit they look really good together, When discus are fully grown they will eat the neons so there is alot of flaw in my suggestion, i like to mix things up.

Different water chemistries though - Rainbowfish prefer hardwater whereas Gouramis need softwater...

Haha, as you wish! Seriously though I have kept neons for years and tried them at different temperatures, and I can say that they do live longer and seem 'happier' at temps around 25c. Cardinal tetras on the other hand can tolerate temps upto 30c, are more colourful and less likly to get eaten as they are larger.
