im sure you know that its not really the best idea to have the tank in direct sunlight, not only does it cause a build up of algy (which you are currently moaning about) but it also causing the temp in ur tank to flux which can stress fish out and also puts extra stress on ur glass and silicone holding the tank together.

maybe you should think about stopping the cause instead of treatin the problem?
Ur actually wrong lol, the temperature is fine, thats what thermostats are used for.

IME those algae magnets are rubbish plus you run the risk of scratching the glass if any bits of sand/gravel get trapped underneath. If you only have fake plants, cut back on the lighting and/or get curtains/blinds for the windows. I know you're fed up of scrubbing but elbow grease really is the only way to get rid of it, unless your tank has room for Otos and/or loaches.

I stock an algae magnet specifically designed for acrylic tanks. They won't scratch anything. A conservatory is the worst place in the world for an aquarium though.

The OP would be well advised to move it somewhere more suitable.

what type of algae do you have, i have a small amount of spot algae and nothing except a hard sponge and elbow grease gets rid.
Also what are you nitrate levels like sometimes excess nutrients can cause algae blooms also have you tried having fast growing plants, they will absorb acertain amount of this.
