Default Cichlid help please

I was recently given two fish in exchange for taking most of my mollies and guppies, I was told they are Malawi but I think they are South American Oscars from looking them up on the net. Each fish is around 6inch's long and the dark one seems to change colours from the reddish in the picture to a much darker colour with prominant stripes could it be a Tiger Oscar. My tank wasn't set up for them but they would have died had the guy took them back with him so we have some changing around to do, the tanks size is 54in long x 24inch high and 22inch depth so its fairly big, if these are Oscars I know they will get a lot bigger. I have a large plecy, and a couple of loaches which I hope are safe as I realize the newcommers will eat anything smaller than their mouths, any advice would be greatfully appreciated and sorry for the picture quality, Im new to this part of the forum as I'm usually on the shelled section.

Not oscars. Look a bit like Parrot Cichlids.

Chocolate Cichlid

From Amazon Basin. Grows upto 30cm long. Needs soft acidic conditions and large tank. Not very beligerant though. Just don't keep them with other large or boisterous fish.

EDIT: yeh, yours looks right Ben!

Oscars are a whole lot more brutish and cool looking. I'd love some more no room for them now though

I'm going to sound really stupid but I've never heard of any of those, all I was told is "I have two large fish would you like them in exchange for your mollies and guppies" and these are what turned up, the guy had driven a long way and I thought they'd never survive the return trip and we didn't know how big they were untill they went in the tank, thanks for the names though I'll look them up further.

top one is cichlasoma temporalis (chocolate cichlid) and the other is gold severum.

chocolate looks a bit tatty on the dorsal, but other than that i'd say theyre quite nice looking
