Golden barbs are excellent for aquariums.....they are a good indicator of water quality too....if the waters of a poor quality they tend to get red/pink blotches on the sides of their body!
plecos can get much bigger than 18"...Its rare in captivity but ive seen them 24"+ & gibbiceps can get bigger than that ! Whatever loricariidae you have in your tank...make sure theres bogwood in the tank too...apparently they chew on it & it contains an enzyme which helps digest food.
Alot of fish get much bigger in the wild than they do in our aquariums.....Altum angels can get 3ft from top to bottom fin ! in the wild !
