Default Stock - Which would you get?

hi guys, just got my empty fluval roma 200 tank up n running, and am just gonna do a nice lil community set up i think

Going to put plenty of hardy plants in there, prob just cabomba and java ferns........

Anyway just getting a list of what possabilities to put in the tank.......not all of course, but my suggestions so far are -

beun asaries tetra
columbian tetra
neons
cherry barbs
platy's
rummynose
corydoras
gourami's
harlequins

any do you reckon to avoid from the above

or, recommend anything not on the list

I would be inclined to stick to fish and plants from a Geographic region- you will get a nice theme going on there. For example, Java Moss, Java Fern and Cryptocorines, coupled with gourami, loaches and barbs, for a South East Asian vibe; Amazon Swords and Valis sp coupled with Tetra Shoals, Apistogramma sp, Corydoras Cats and Maybe a reasonable sized Plec for an Amazonian.

Better still, go with Anubias on rocks, and create an African River tank, with Elephant Noses, Leopard Perch, African Butterflys, African Knives and Congo Tetra- that will make for an awesome behavioural tank...

If you try to do something a little different, like this, you will find the tank much more appealing, and enjoy it for a whole lot longer.

The largest Elephant Noses I have seen were about 8 inch, as were the knifefish. Its a tank I have always wanted to set-up myself, but I'm fresh outta tank-space at the mo...

I used to have a really nice planted South East Asian tank... here it is...

CO2- gotta love it... Believe it or not, home to a pair of sucking loaches, an apple snail, a rainbow shark, a trio of pearl Gourami, a trio of Cherry Barbs, a pair of red-eyed puffers and a male siamese fighter. Oh, and Amano Shrimp. There was no algae... at all...

liking this a lot - i have put the tetra plant substrate down which will have gravel over the top of that.........i was going to see how it went without using CO2........

with the tank planted as it was, did you vacum the gravel or just take out water and top up.......would be a nightmare syphoning the gravel and up rooting all them plants

Yeah, the one I posted had TetraComplet with Pea Gravel over the top- the advantage of heavy planting is that you can get away with murder regarding your species compatability.

Oh, and I never gravel cleaned, or water changed- just topped up the evaporation with dechlorinated.

Quite fancy a gourami set-up come to think of it, 1 fish i have never owened over the years.......i am sure i have a PFK issue with a topic on them about which species can go together etc.....hhmmm will see if i can find it......

1 things for sure i need MORE plants .........

at my lfs, they have pearls, golds, dwarf neon, honey and kissing, although i will skip the kissing me thinks, and the more i read about dwarf neons or blue neons whatever they call em these days i may skip them as i read that due to MASS breeding and apparantly been know as poor travellers the strain is getting a bit weak....true or not i dont know, just what i have read and been told be some?
