Default Guppy love

Is ther eany particular way you can tell if your guppiesor other livebearers are pregnant? I see so much on the net syaing how 90% of females bought are already pregnant from the store before you get them home you see. Just wandering as i know you need to make sure babies are kept away from everything or they are gonna be the next fast food service for my tank.

Look at the area just in front of her anal fin: if there is a large, dark spot (called a gravid spot) then she is pregnant. Also, she is likely to be fairly fat if she is in the later stages of pregnancy.

Not a stupid question! Livebearer pregnancies generally last about a month.

Lol well yeah but it is something i perhaps should have read a bit more about before storming in and buying my fish really >.<'

But no harm done least the questions are being answered lol. i did a bit of reading up but that was mainly to make sure my community would be friendly with eachother and that it wont outgrow my tank.

Now I've got my gravel, havent put it in yet and i am starting to collate all the other items i want to put into my tank but it's going to take a while as me n the OH cant decide how we want it to look in the end.... lol

Can i ask...wtf? Not quite sure what last post is about? :S

But whilst i am here, can anyone tell me if spotting the grey spot and such is EASY and obvious even to the stupiedesst of people? I just wanna make sure im not wakin up like es and finding 100 of fish haha. Although i gotta admit it would be nice.

Also, my silver molly is seeming alot fatter than my other 2 and they chase it alot, not sure if its female but it would be kool ^^'

Spotting it should be easy unless you've got a dark coloured female.

Thanks Jack.

My females are blue and red. fairly deep colours but yeah i dont think they are getting ready to drop anything just yet lol. Would be great to see them have lil ones though b/c i am getting my kid a tank for her room it would be perfect size for a few babies til they were big enough to not be food lol.
