Default Puffers..............

Me and the mrs were at a local rep shop and a pair of baby figure of 8 puffers caught her eye and she fell in love with them. After doing some online research, i've discovered that they're not as easy to care for as many other fish.

Does anyone on here keep puffers and can share and advice and tips with me?

Thanks a lot

Ste

Puffers are absolutely fantastic fish, however don't do well socialising, especially with other fish. I know some need brackish water. I have owned some different kinds throughout the years- pygmy, green spotted and a marine puffer.

I had 6 green spotted puffers in the one tank and the were brilliant.

As i said though not the best to have in a community tank as they are nippy, however in a tank of their own they are very fascinating to watch.

Thanks for that. I assumed they were ok in pairs as they were being sold in pairs.

What about keeping them alive? Will they eat tropical flakes?

No mate they are meat eaters. They do best on bloodworms, you can buy these frozen like ice cubes. Just pop in the tank and enjoy the show!!!!

You might need to give them snails too for trimming their teeth.

Would a block of frozen bloodies not keep their teeth trimmed?

You could throw in a few snails as a treat for them, i'm sure the figure of eight puffers like the spotted green puffers should be kept in brackish water. i would confirm this with the pet shop if you buy them.

They are the kind of fish though that you could just sit and watch all night as they are always active and the eyes are just so cool.

Im also interested in keeping puffers but totally new to fish keeping, are there any puffers that can be kept with other fish? I like the look of rays, eels and catfish also. I know im not being very specific but would like a nice display tank with a few different interesting fish to keep.
