"Pointed Tail" Disease.

I read about this not that long ago,and my new batch of fry have just got it, I noticed a few were dying and some were swimming funny, at first I thought it was "Shimmy" then I noticed they had the pointed tail. Im wondering how contagious is this? And what causes it and how i can get rid of it?

can't say i've ever heard of it as a disease, although fish do clamp their fins when ill

methinks they've been born deformed - unless of course you saw that they were formed properly prior to the losses

I had fry born similar deformities, they either died by themselves or got fed to the other fish.

I only read about it once or twice, but the symptoms are really obvious. Im not sure if it could be an external parasite, so i treated them for external parasite. It can only help. Because I doubt it is internal, they are behaving fine though their tails slowly becming clamped and spear shaped,they find it hard to swim, and die withing 24hours of their tail becoming fully clamped.

Their about...a month old now.
I have seperated them from the healthy ones and the not so sure ones.

I really can't find anything about it and am worried it will spread, though when I did read something about it once, it said its only contagious to fry.

i think it could just be down to tank conditions amonia ect i have had loads of fry of different fish clamp there fins like that as the fish/fry grow they become overcrowded and filters dont cope as well the best thing i think is more partial water changes and if theres 2 many cull the ones u have not got space for even if your test kit says no ammonia does not mean there is not small fry are more fragile at a month old they will be more than double the size they were and growing

Strawberry, to get any useful help you need to post a lot more details.

Test the water for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH and post all of the results. Also include details of tank size, maintenance routine, what you're feeding them, tank mates and finally, some pictures. If you have a digital camers set it to use it's macro setting so you can get some good pictures posted. People may be able to make an informed diagnosis then. Without all of the above, we can only guess I'm afraid.
