Default question about clown loaches

I had quite a hectic night lastnight. I heard dripping coming from somewhere so i was walking around looking....then "OH the 50 gallon is leaking!"

My dad had that aquarium for 26 years. he was actually a little sad when we were taking it down. saying " i knew this day would come..."

well he told me we were going to have to flush all the fish which really upset me because.. well, ive never really been attached to fish before but these 2 angels really have a personality....

luckily his friend had a 30 gallon that she brought over so we transferred everything

but, we have this clown loach[e?] that is about 2 and a half inches long and really, hes been doing this since we got him..

do they usually play dead?... or.. sleep on their side?

the day after we got him i noticed him on his side so i stuck the net in and he swam off so i just left him

but lastnight in the 30 gallon he was doing it and not looking too good either....and now i cant find him so i dont know if hes hiding somewhere or if he was dead this morning and dad took him out..

just wondering if its normal for them to lay on their side

...this is quite normal behavior for loaches to lay on their side when resting. I would also make sure you have some hides for him to claim.

Clown loaches do better in groups, so I would recommend you to get it some friends, this might perk him up . Clown loaches can grow up to 8"-12" max if they have plenty of space so would take that into consideration for the future.

Good luck, I hope he is just hiding

John

You could have just resealed the 50 gal. It is a relativley simple job to do if you dont mind a strong smell of silicone for a couple of days. Would be a shame to just throw the tank away.
