Default New tank and setup

I have decided that I want to own goldfish, and so am going to buy either a Juwel Rio 125 or a Juwel Rekord 800 tank.
I was thinking of painting the rear of the tank white and using black or blue gravel, and also removing the lid and using an arcadia overtank lumiaire to give the tank a very modern look.
As I know very little about the running of a fish tank, I dont know what flter to get.....but I know I want it to be an external filter. I have read that it needs to have the capacity twice the size of the tanks capacity as goldfish are very messy, but dont now if I would also need air stones etc..
Any advice would be grateful, as I reall am a novice....I just wantto buy a tank, fill it with water, and plonk some fish in there.....lol....but I know that isnt the right thing to do!

The 2 Juwel tanks you mention come with an internal filter. You'll need to remove the heaters and away you go. Neither are big enough for the long term care of common goldfish (These fish are really suited to ponds as they grow to a foot in lengh) but would be ideal for a few small fancy varieties. They are very messy fish, so a weekly water change of 25% whilst using a gravel vac is a good idea.

Read the sticky on fishless cycling. Don't buy any fish until you understand the nitrogen cycle and have bought the basic test kits needed to monitor water conditions. Your local fish shop will be able to help. If not, PM me.
