They'll do a job. But Eheim are more reliable. Trust me.

i have one on a 450 litre tank with a fx5 on it, and works fine, and for the pounds x filteration i would not think you can get more than the fx
just dont overpack filter as it doesnt work as well with too much sponges etc in it, i have the fx plus a tetratec 1200 on the 450 litre and i clean alternitivly and that way i find i have good clear water all the time

The FX5 is one of the few decent pieces of kit fluval make. If you've got the extra cash Eheim make a series of similar bucket filters. They are basically sealed buckets with a pump bolted on. Simple and work a treat

I have used both the Fluval and the Eheim and I would have to say the Eheim is better. The Fluval is by no means a bad filter tho. It will be slightly cheper than the Eheim.
